Karen Barton, M.D. is a graduate of NEOUCOM and completed her Family Medicine residency training at Summa Health System.  Dr. Barton started working at ACHR in 2005 and has been active in developing a patient education program.  She has been serving as the Medical Director since August 2007 and participates on many advisory councils including Summa Health, NEOUCOM, University of Akron Nursing Program, and the Kent University Nursing Program.  She is a preceptor for NEOUCOM medical students. Dr. Barton has recently been recognized by Summa Health Systems as an outstanding champion physician in 2008 as voted by her peers.  Dr. Barton's professional competency and distinguished commitment to community to community health are duly noted in northeast Ohio!

Dr. Barton is a resident of Summit County having pursued a medical degree in 2002 from NEOUCOM and a BS in Biology in 1998.  Dr. Barton had obtained a degree in political science in 1972 from the American University of Beirut, Lebanon.  Dr. Barton had previously been employed as the long-tenured Executive Director of the Free Clinic-Townhall II in Portage County, OH (Kent)- serving the medically needy and uninsured has been a passion of Dr. Karen Barton.


Ann Elise Collier, M.D. is a Drexel University graduate and completed residency training at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.  She is a National Health Service Corp Scholar. Dr. Collier started working at ACHR in 2007.

Michael D. Powell, M.D. is a Howard University graduate, completed his residency training in Pediatrics at Akron Children’s Hospital and worked for 13 years in its Emergency Room.  He has served as ACHR’s first Medical Director and currently serves as ACHR’s Associate Medical Director/Pediatrician and has been with the center since 1995.  Dr. Powell is a preceptor for Children’s Hospital Pediatric Residents and Summa Health System’s Family Practice Residency Programs.

Charles Dhyanchand, M.D. is a Rush Medical School graduate and completed his residency at the University of Tennessee Family Practice in Knoxville, TN.  He has recently been employed at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in Albuquerque, NM.  Dr. Dhyanchand began working at ACHR in July 2008.

Christina Coenen, BSN-MSN, NP,
is a graduate of the University of Iowa and Kent State University.  Christina has worked in public health for many years in Iowa and Ohio, presently with the Summit County Health District serving as the Nursing Supervisor and School Health Coordinator.  She is ANCC Certified in the State of Ohio as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and has been professionally associated with ACHR since May 2008.

Laura Adler, BSN-MSN, FNP. is a family nurse practitioner who is a graduate of John Hopkins University School of Nursing in Baltimore, MD.  She is a National Health Service Corps Scholar and began working at ACHR in August 2008.
